Invoice California Tax Details

The below chart is a tax breakout of actual prices for prints purchased by California customers at my local Santa Clara County exhibitions. Unmounted rolled prints sold at exhibitions will be packaged in the same shipping tubes as on the Print Handling page. Sales tax is California state sales tax including Santa Clara County and the city of Campbell local taxes a total of 8.25%. CSST varies slightly from county to county and sometimes by city with 8.25% most common, so this would vary depending on the exact exhibited location. The Total is the simple price a customer needs to pay and includes California state sales tax. My invoice will break out the cost per below. My purpose in pricing this way is simplicity especially for purchases at art fairs and exhibits where I prefer not to deal with change. Note such pricing is allowed by California if obvious signage displays so at point of sale.

For instance per below code B, the Total cost is $107.00. If that print is purchased by a customer at a Santa Clara County exhibition where there was no need for a shipment, the sales tax would be $5.87 which is 8.25% of the print price $71.13. For out of the state of California ordered purchases, the price remains the same though the invoice will reflect no California sales tax. Thus on an invoice, S&H costs will be separated with exact amounts depending on current UPS rates. Typical rates for a UPS Ground shipment of my shipping tubes to the US East Coast are about $8.00. Thus if that was the exact cost, for the above code B print, the print price would be $99.00 with $8.00 for S&H and no tax. For a California customer, the UPS shipping cost for the same print might be $5. In that case shipping is not taxed so the tax calculation is made after subtracting the S&H from the Total price. All this would also be on a California invoice. If so the print price would be $66.05, tax $5.45, and S&H $5.50, for a total of $77.
