Print & Frame Dimensions

The below Print Framing Dimensions table shows current print sizes, recommended mat internal opening sizes, and frame dimensions to assist communication with framing services. Customers providing this information up front will necessarilly eliminate framers having to ask several questions or having to physically remove a print from a shipping tube at that time and measure it. The table sequence is 35mm, then 6x7, then 4x5 in alphanumeric sequence of the slide number. Each image's slide number can be located on its image page in bold font just below each image in the left side information field. Note one may also momentarily mouse hover over any image on the home page gallery index which would also show a print title. The image size is the size of just the image that rectangular mat opening dimensions ought to be slightly smaller than in order that only image areas display. The print size column includes the image plus digital bevel cut plus white border. Note an external mat size is usually a bit larger than its attached print. The white border includes necessary space beyond an image to fascilitate attachment to a mat so I usually provide about one inch around all images borders. The frame dimension is a recommended full size of artwork for a frame, and stack up of glazing, mat, print, and backing board. Thus any frame will be somewhat physically larger depending on its enclosing structure features. Metal section frames add just a minor additional dimension while wood frames often add inches additionally to each side. So one ought note such when planning to fit a print at a given wall location. The internal mat opening dimensions are recommended internal opening sizes of a mat. This needs to be slightly less than an image size in order not to show borders while not being so small as to make positioning during framing too difficult. The suggested internal mat opening figures shown are 0.175 inches of overlap around the images borders equaling 0.35 inches for each two sides. My digital signatures are placed away from frame edges just enough to accomodate that much mat overlap while more may hide the signature. Less is preferred as removing more of an image behind a mat may effect image aesthetics. Generally I have carefully considered image aesthetics when cropping an image that rarely fits standard frame sizes. Thus I would strongly discourage trying to crop these print dimensions to fit standard frame sizes as image quality is certain to suffer and instead use custom framing sizes. Note only most of the 4x5 images have two sizes available at this time and can be identified by dual slide number entries containing different size information.
